With his first full length release still in production, Dan Crump, a new comer to the Texas Music scene shows great promise to become a mainstay on the circuit.
Crump’s traditional country sound is seasoned by a folk edge that brings a fresh spin to the genre. “The quality of his lyrical songwriting continues to astound me” says long-time friend and owner of Texas based Priest Guitars. “Dan’s new sound and strong emotional songs have become the benchmark for many entertainers I work with” added Priest.
Raised in Lubbock, TX, Dan was exposed to the music of many local favorites such as The Maines Brothers Band, Terry Allen, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, and Mac Davis at a young age. But just as most typical teen’s worship rock and roll, Dan was no exception. Bands such as Van Halen and Cream fast became Crump’s musical passion until his first few years at Texas Tech University.
While working at a guitar shop and attending college, Dan befriended another fellow songwriter named Pat Green that would later influence much of his writing. “Pat turned me on to guys like Robert Earl Keen, Billy Joe Shaver, Townes Van Zandt and Willie…. who knew that he would someday be selling out stadiums himself!” “I really enjoy almost all styles of music, but it wasn’t until later that I discovered how much I truly love the singer-songwriter thing…” claims Dan.
“I think the song writer has been in me all along – no matter how hard I try to shake it!” Dan jokes. After the eight years of choosing the “Corporate Path”, Dan has decided to go public in a big way with his music. The five piece Dan Crump Band gains momentum for a very busy spring / summer tour, while his first CD release is expected to hit store shelves by October of 2004.
