Reformed prog-rockers Haze celebrate their 30th anniversary this year with two shows, a new live album & the CD reissue of their classic “Stoat & Bottle” LP from 1987.
The three piece, Sheffield based band will be playing at the Peel, Kingston on Thames on Saturday 31st May and the Boardwalk, Sheffield on Sunday 1st June. Advance tickets are on sale for the Boardwalk show at £6, both shows will be £8 on the door. Doors open at 7.30 & the show will start at 8pm prompt. There will be a support from the near legendary purveyors of Heavy Wood, the Nottingham duo Twice Bitten, plus a 2 hour set from Haze.
Both shows will be recorded for release on a double live CD on Cyclops Records, who are also re-issuing “Stoat & Bottle” on CD to coincide with the concerts.
Haze were formed by brothers Chris & Paul McMahon, whilst still at school in 1978. They got through a Spinal Tap-like number of drummers, until Paul Chisnell sold his house to buy a new drum kit & gave up his teaching job to join the band for five years of manic touring.
500 gigs, two LPs, two singles, a half dozen cassettes and one serious car crash later the band broke up with a 10th anniversary show at Sheffield University.
The McMahon brothers then formed World Turtle and released 2 CDs on Cyclops Records, who also started reissuing the Haze back catalogue on CD.
Haze reformed in 1998 with a 20th anniversary concert, which was released as a double live CD on Cyclops Records. Since then the band have toured Europe twice and became a regular fixture at the Whitchurch Music Festival, but have spend most of their time playing as 3/5ths of Treebeard, an acoustic band very much in demand on the Beer Festival circuit.
For the 30th anniversary shows the band will be playing a selection of new songs, as well as some of the less frequently played old numbers.
