Playing a dolly-mix of sounds from foot-on-amp, sweat-steaming, guitar-crunching psychedelic rock to deliciously cool electro pop, Magoo rule.
Schizophrenic, stylish and often ahead of their time, Magoo move seamlessly between electronic beats, vocoded vocals, dreamy synths and looped sound-bites, through acoustic Americana, and all the way to feed-back wailing, riff-ridden noise rock.
“The nearest thing Britain has to the labyrinthine, mutant DIY thinking behind The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and Guided By Voices." The Guardian
"Brain scrambling, intense psycho rock... all wired beats, twisted falsetto and sand-blasted rock riffs." Uncut
"Sonic scientists of the most playful order." NME
The boy-girl five piece have supported the likes of Ash , Snow Patrol, The Delgados, Mogwai and Fonda 500 and have released tracks on labels including Glasgow's coolest Chemikal Underground, Fierce Panda, Elefant and Global Warming.
Since the release of their last long player Realist Week in 2002 and a double CD EP Pop Songs in 2005, the band have been beavering away at new material at their own Sickroom Studios (home to Kaito, Bearsuit, and the Broken Family Band among others).
After various line up changes and with seven Peel sessions, XFM A-list plays, a high profile slot at Glastonbury and Radio 1 Live in Newcastle under their belts, Magoo are back stronger, catchier and brimming with more ideas than ever before.
