THE TREAT
THE TREAT are one of the best bands to emerge in recent years on the music scene in the UK. Drawing from a broad range of styles, THE TREAT play their own unique, colourful brand of music. Their genre hopping, independent spirit is steadily capturing the imagination of an increasing number of listeners, providing them with an opportunity to appeal to a pan generational audience. . Their sound is by turns passionate, exhilarating, fun, dark, melodic and joyous.
THE TREAT began as a three piece power rock trio, playing a unique brand of neo-classic rock grooves & in your face riffs, as evidenced on their debut album ‘IN TECHNICOLOR’ released in 2004. Since then, this Oxford based band have evolved and progressed artistically & musically and although their core classic rock sound remains, it’s now liberally sprinkled with touches of psychedelia, prog, acoustic/folk & blues influences, all topped off with a top notch songwriting prowess and a nod towards pop sensibilities and tight, concise production.
THE TREAT release their albums through the small independent label, ‘Rockular Recordings Ltd.’, also based in Oxford. The label promoted their first album , ‘ IN TECHNICOLOR’, to terrestrial and internet based radio stations around the world, where the album was added to numerous playlists. Rockular Recordings also promoted the 'IN TECHNICOLOR' album to numerous magazines, fanzines and webzines in the UK and overseas, which resulted in the band and album receiving excellent reviews worldwide. The label, working along side the band, also promoted the group on the internet, by word-of-mouth, at gigs and also distributed the album through a select group of shops including local branches of HMV and Virgin, all of which have helped to raise the profile of the band and the album. (see reviews page for details).
During the above promotional activity and gigs, THE TREAT continued to write and record songs for the band’s second album ‘PHONOGRAPHY’. The album is now ready for release and advance copies are currently being distributed for review.

Band Member's Profiles
Mike Hyder
(Electric, 6 & 12 string Acoustic Guitars/Lead Vocal/Songwriting)
Mike Hyder is a guitarist, songwriter and singer with a versatile approach to making music. He formed The Treat in 2001, with a vision to develop a band that was capable of putting on entertaining, powerful live shows, as well as making great albums that would stand the test of time.
Mike has very varied tastes in music, which influence his songwriting and his guitar playing. These include a love of rock, metal, blues, funk, soul and folk, along with certain jazz, country, ethnic and orchestral music. His first love remains high energy, guitar based music, of a ‘classic rock’ style. Among the artists and bands that have influenced him are Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Bowie, The Beatles, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Zappa and Green Day.
Dom Lash
(Electric Bass/Double Bass/Keyboards)
Dom Lash is a versatile bassist , who has a love of Jazz, rock and funk music. He plays both electric and acoustic double bass and experiments with numerous effects to create a wide variety of sounds.
Dom joined The Treat in 2002, after a chance telephone conversation with Mike and an exchange of CDs through the post.
The least outwardly flamboyant and extrovert of the band, Dom prefers to concentrate on his playing and provides The Treat with a solid rhythm to build on. Like Mike, he is an extremely experienced musician, able to perform on the stage, as well as in the studio. His favourite musicians include Robert Fripp, George Clinton, Cecil Taylor, Charlie Parker & Napalm Death.
'Purple' David Hart
(Drums/Tabla/ Percussion/Bass Clarinet/Multi-Intrumentalist)
David Hart met Mike Hyder in August 2005, when Mike was looking for a Tabla player to play a session for The Treat on a track recorded for a future release. Having impressed the band with his ability in the studio, David was asked to jam with The Treat on stage during their acoustic gig in October. Dave played tablas on a new track 'Citizen Of The World' & 'Agent 555'. Having proved himself to be a good live performer, he was then asked to play on several new Treat songs being recorded. He has now been fully welcomed in to The Treat family, where he has so far added Bass Clarinet, Djembi, Glockenspiel, Tympani & Melodica to the increasingly exotic brew that The Treat are mixing.
Like Mike, David has a love of progressive rock music, Heavy Metal, and ethnic /world music. Dave likes Yes, Magnum, Rammstein, Pakistani Qawalli music & They Might Be Giants. Lately, he has been listening to a number of Jacques Brel songs. He is called 'Purple Dave', as an acknowledgement for his penchant for purple coloured clothes.
