Chris Nunez is a Colombian-American singer song writer/musician raised in West Orange, NJ. As an impressionable teenager Nunez began to appreciate the talents of groups like Bob Marley and the Wailers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Guns and Roses, Metallica, and many other iconic bands with influential lyrics and music.
He attended high school in both Puerto Rico and the U.S. It was during this period that Nunez realized his passion for music. This passion would later come to fruition when Nunez began writing and performing his own music, which he saw both as an art form as well as a platform for the expression of his views on society, religion, oppression, and politics.
Despite this realization of his passion for music, Nunez still lacked discipline and a concrete sense of where his life was going. He decided to join the United States Marine Corps to find a sense of direction in his life.
After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the beginning of the war in Iraq, Nunez was called on by Uncle Sam. He reported for duty in 2003 to serve his country with the US Marines during the ongoing conflicts with the Middle East.
Throughout his tour in Iraq, Nunez witnessed many instances of oppression and obstacles to his faith.
“Witnessing the oppression… in Iraq through the previous regime who ruled, my heart wept for the people who had no rights and equality. The Iraq war was an eye opener for me and challenged me to be more aware of what was going on around the world, especially in the third world,” said Nunez.
For Nunez, the words of Bob Marley ring tragically true. In his song “War,” Marley tells us, “That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all…That until that day the dream of lasting peace, world citizenship, rule of international morality, will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued, but never attained - now everywhere is war – war.”
These events in Chris Nunez’s life along with the influences of artists like Bob Marley led Nunez to a revelation of the power of music. Nunez believed in the musical genius of artists like Marley who used music as a revolutionary force to free those who are oppressed by society.
Since his days in the Marines, Nunez has been writing songs inspired by what he was witness to. His music forces all of us to examine current and ongoing conflicts and social injustices in today’s world.
In his debut EP, “Gasoline Dream,” scheduled to be released in early 2009, Chris Nunez has orchestrated a collection of songs that deal with the issues of war, oppression, corruption, religion, politics, and hope. Two of them, “Dr. John Brown” and “Gasoline Dream,” are hard-hitting tracks that wrestle with the Middle Eastern conflict and the economic coma that Nunez sees the world in.
As both a war veteran and a college student engaged with the world around him, his music is an honest examination of the state that our world is in today.

When it comes to boosting an artist’s reach, the choice between hiring radio pluggers and doing self-promotion can be critical. Radio pluggers specialize in radio promotion leveraging established relationships with stations to get songs on the air efficiently. They bring industry expertise, strategic pitching, and credibility that self-promotion often lacks. On the other hand, self-promotion allows artists to maintain control, connect directly with their audience, and save costs, but it demands significant time and networking skills. Ultimately, combining both approaches can maximize exposure, ensuring that music reaches wider audiences while retaining a personal promotional touch.
