Mario Rodilosso was born in Catania, where he lives. As a child, influenced by his father,a pianist,he literally breathed jazz;and when, only ten years old,he began to touch the piano keyboard,he soon revealed an eagerness for improvisation and experimentation, always trying personal harmonic and contrapuntal sequences. At the age of fourteen,at a concert which closed the celebrations of John Henry Newman,in Leonforte,in which Giorgio Gaslini took part,he charmed the audience with a breathtaking performance of the famous Take Five.Later he felt the need to discipline his natural talent with the study of classical music and, under the stimulating guide of the excellent concert artist and piano teacher Carmen Costa, got with full marks a diploma in piano at the Academy of Music in Reggio Calabria. Thanks to his versatility and availability,he has often collaborated,as he still does, with various instrumental and vocal groups, bringing his personal contribution also into musical genres different from jazz.
Mario has issued three CDs,in which he plays in solos and with various ensembles:the first, produced by Aleph and titled FLOWERS, contains seven compositions of his own and two well-known standards;the second, produced by Idea Produzioni Musicali,Milano, and titled EMOTIONS,from the final item pervaded by a magic twilight atmosphere, features only compositions of his, among which two takes of the wonderful, melancholy Every Time It Ends;the third,LIVE.MOMENTS@MAGS,produced by Bang Bang,Milano, presents items endowed with a particular freshness and immediacy because recorded during a concert;among them the new item Moments titles the CD.He has also performed in theatres and clubs and taken part in Terniinjazz, always arousing enthusiastic responses in the audiences;his CDs are often broadcast by specialised radios and appreciated by jazz lovers. He is valued by jazz experts and specialists and has been reviewed by Luciano Vanni (Jazzit, Jazz Magazine),Giordano Selini,Bruno Pollacci (Animajazz), Salvatore Marchese,Enrico Guarrera,Fabio Ciminiera (Jazz Convention),Pierfrancesco Falbo (Jazzitalia).
Anyone who listens to these items soon appreciates their freshness and spontaneity, and grasps Mario’s natural gift of conveying with immediacy emotions through music:as a true creative artist,he makes his incredible technical skill disappear behind harmonies, phrasings and a rhythmic, which allure us with their beauty, and give us,through a language which is rich and complex, but always essential and limpid, moments of rare emotive plenitude. - - - - - -
