"Nadia's music stops time. I swear to God. Her beauty and sincerity, on stage and off, demands that the world stop and take a look"...
Originally from Quesnel, BC, Nadia von Hahn has gone from high school eccentric, to musical theater maniac, and finally, a powerhouse songstress, all in a few short years. After packing her bags, and cutting off her teenaged-dreadlocks, this small town girl graduated as class Valedictorian from The Canadian College of Performing Arts, in Victoria. There she received a $10,000 scholarship from the Canadian Heritage Arts Society, for her work in classical voice, acting, and musical theater. A diverse performer, Nadia has taken her layered artistic background and infused her own songwriting with drama, sincerity, and stubborn hope.
Described as “cinematic”, “an ethereal folk powerhouse”, and “an elegant songbird with a strong and angelic voice”, she is poised at the beginning of an exciting and promising career. From dramatic piano balladry to lush folk melodies, her distinct luxurious vocals and empathetic lyrics are a gracious hostess to a wide audience. Her relentlessly hummable melodies, and courageously sensitive sound have drawn comparisons to Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Sarah Slean, and even Loreena McKennitt. Her unique fusion of pop, folk, and classical sensibilities have combined to create a style that is both entirely current and completely timeless, a sound that is entirely her own.
In 2008, Nadia started recording her debut album in Victoria, until one night she received a devastating e-mail. Someone had broken into the studio, and the computer was taken. There were no back-ups. Everything was gone, just when it was nearly finished. “More than anything I was in shock, thinking about the time and energy that was lost, special moments in the recordings you just can't re-create. But, eventually, the experience taught me that starting over can be a good thing, and now I'm stronger for it. I'll be releasing a very different album soon, and I pretty much feel ready to take on the world.”
Nadia is currently recording her debut album, with producer Winston (Hannah Georgas, Hey Ocean!), along with songs produced by Jean-Paul Maurice (Maurice/143 Records') to be released Fall 2009.
