Cassini’s Division has been at the forefront of the revolution called Indian Rock for eight
long years, pushing musical boundaries and defying convention to come up with a unique
sound that is best described as hybrid – emotionally-charged, perverse, dark, and surprisingly
danceable
Marrying the power of heavy rock with melody and groove, the band has traversed a long
road to its current position as one of the most respected original acts in this part of the
world. At a time when the international music scene is going through rapid changes,
Cassini’s Division is making the music that people want to hear, with just the right mix of
elements that gives it broad crossover appeal without losing the cutting edge that one
expects from any great rock group.
A power trio fronted by a singer/rapper, Cassini’s Division is known for both musical
prowess and lyrical brilliance. Having started out in 2001 as a vehicle for songwriter Rahul
Guha Roy’s alternative tunes, it quickly grew into a musical collective with the varied
influences that Sukanti Roy (guitar), John Bose (bass) and Ritoban Das (drums and
percussion) brought into the mix. The fusion of thoughtful, often poetic lyrics with a sparse
but powerful musical aesthetic took India’s rock audience by storm. The Cassini’s Division
live experience is one in which the wall between the performer and audience is torn down,
leading to a free flow of emotion where the listener and band become almost one through
the spiritual power of the music.
