what began as a 12 song solo demo recording in the basement of michelle cox's atlanta home morphed into the rock ensemble that is now soft collision. the influences of blonde redhead, the smashing pumpkins, slint, the cure, and others blend together to form a new sound led by a voice reminiscent of dido, portishead, pj harvey, or perhaps even a ""depressed pat benetar"". with a tight rhythm section held down by siblings susannah and mike barnes (of brass knuckle surfer, the brew, and novocaine), and the creative, slint-infused guitar style of maserati guitarist matt cherry, soft collision paints a vocal-led sonic landscape that evokes moods shifting from dark rock to melancholy dreaminess to upbeat pop.
