When music fans first encounter the songs of emerging Canadian songwriter/singer Dean Wolfe, comparisons are made to artists of substance: Early Neil Young, Ben Folds, Paul McCartney, Crowded House, Bruce Cockburn, Bright Eyes, Jayhawks.
‘11:59' is an ecclectic self-produced debut CD of acoustic pop/rock-folk originals. He will be touring Canada in 2006.
Though a multi-instrumentalist, Wolfe’s main pick-axe is guitar. On some of ‘11:59' he explores Beatle-esque chamber- pop territory with sparse cello/guitar/vocal arrangements. The rootsy-er Neil Young-inspired tunes feature his banjo, pedal steel guitar and harmonica.
Some of Dean’s songs were covered by his London Ontario contemporaries including Dan Brodbeck's band ‘The Guns’ (producer of Garnet Rogers, The Salads).
A quick history: Before reaching legal drinking age Wolfe toured central Canada as guitarist for ‘FXU’. It started in clubs peppered with knife toting bikers and progressed to Triple A rooms with good pay and luxurious accomodations. There was an extended detour through the cooking and care-giving professions. His tireless inclination meant musical projects were constantly simmering on back-burners. He’s played guitar, bass and even cello in numerous original and cover bands.
Dean was born in St.Catharines (sharing its fertile soil with such Canadian luminaries as Ron Sexsmith and Rush's Neil Peart), spent a chunk of time in London and San Francisco, and now lives in Brampton, a Toronto suburb.
