The AJB is Annie's hard rocking live band. Solo, Annie brings out the acoustic guitar but keeps to the edge.
How to describe the AJB's live show? Imagine L7 meets the Rolling Stones or Hole meets Led Zeppelin. From the very first note, hair is flying and guitars are wailing. This band can't keep still. They love every minute on stage, they love playing music together, and they are dedicated to having as much fun at a show as possible while still maintaining a pro attitude & sound.
The AJB has played just about everywhere there is to play in southeastern Virginia and the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Their road trips have taken them as far north as Kent & Cleveland, Ohio and as far south as St. Petersburg, Florida for the FPG Beltane Festival 2005 and Kolomoki State Park in Georgia for Earth Dance 2005. They have performed live on 93.7 The Coast, BOB FM Norfolk, and Paul Shagrue's Out of the Box on 89.5 FM WHRV. Favorite gigs include Hampton Bay Days, Hampton Block Parties, and Harvest Faire.
Annie was voted Folk Artist of the Year for 2002 by the readers of Ninevolt Magazine. The Annie Johnson Band has opened for Maria Muldaur, Shannon Curfman, Agents of Good Roots, and Sally Taylor. They won the Blues-A-Palooza Battle of the Bands contest at Goodfellas in Hampton in 2002.
Annie's been featured in the Daily Press, Ninevolt, MP3.com, Estrogen Music.com, Besonic.com, Acid Planet.com, National Public Radio Open Mic Web Site, and the Paganet.
The current line-up of the AJB has been together since 1999. They have an upbeat, energetic rock show that features a mix of original songs and covers that they've made their own.
