Formed over internet classifieds while Brandon was living in Europe, L’élan Vital began work in late fall 2004. After searching out the right instruments and artists, L’élan Vital began to write and perform their pieces in Winter 2005. Brandon met guitarist Andrew at a Sigur Ros show in December 2001. They spoke of working together but nothing materialized until the project took form in 2004. Initially formed to be an african-drum based instrumental group, the project truly took form when Brandon teamed up with digital entrepreneur David West. Encorporating David's intriguing beat programming with Brandon's quest to 'lull the world to sleep', set the stage for Andrew's ambient guitar work and Sam Wise's classically based piano stylings to shape a true sound. And finally, with the addition of composer/performer Sam Gathman's beautiful violin to the project, the group was ready to make their mark on Colorado music.
