Bio:
SoundProof was founded in late 2002. The band’s members have diverse backgrounds, but share a common goal of creating music that is both intelligent and entertaining, music that achieves the right balance between improvisational freedom and structural soundness, music that is rooted in traditions, but always innovative, music that is stylistically diverse yet has a recognizable unique sound. This kind of balance is not easy to achieve, but this DC area based band is determined to prove that it is possible. Proof through sound. SoundProof.
Alex Pryrodny (keys) and Brian Wilson (drums) met while studying music at UMD. Alex was already playing with Eugene Gorokhov (bass) who is currently getting his JD at George Mason Law School.
When Alex and Eugene needed a new drummer, Brian was the perfect fit.
Alex Pryrodny began playing piano at the age of three and performed his first concert at the age of six. By the time he performed his American debut at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C. (at the age of sixteen), he had been the participant of several prestigious international festivals and prizewinner of 8 international and 2 national competitions for young musicians as a pianist, composer, and improviser. He has also been featured on national television and radio in Russia as well as the Ukraine.
2006 UPDATE:
Alex has recently moved to New York City and SoundProof is currently on hiatus. However, we hope to do another recording session this winter, with several dates in the DC area to follow.
Credits:
"Sleepless" is original and "Take Five" is currently public domain, but was originally composed by Paul Desmond, star saxophonist with Dave Brubeck. "Take Five" was released on the project titled "Time Out," by the Dave Brubeck Quartet in 1959 on the Columbia/Legacy label.
SoundProof's versions of "Take Five" and "My Favorite Things" (from the "Sound of Music") are completely different from the original. We wish we could release more of our cover songs, but alas, most are not public domain. If anyone knows where we can find a list of public domain jazz pieces, please could you email Alex at Pryrodny@yahoo.com. Thanks.
SoundProof wants to thank music producer
Matthew Shell for engineering and mastering these recordings. Matthew's work with Marcus Johnson on the album "FLO Chill" reached the top ten of Billboard's Jazz Charts.
Many thanks to the parents and friends who supported us all along, to the fans, and to you for listening to our music.
