Music has been a part of my life since I was born. My Mother sang all of her life and taught me to hear and sing harmony parts by age four. At five years old, I was given my first Jackson 5 tape, and it gave me a whole new outlook on music in general. Jackson 5 helped me to see that all music was different, and that music could be formed into what I wanted it to sound like. From then on I was hooked on R&B/Soul. Shortly after that, I was given a copy of Boyz II Men's version of In the Still of the Night. This one was a huge influence on my vocal range and style. I studied their voices and harmonies until the tape would not play any more. Shortly after, I moved to other artists such as Brian McKnight, Lauren Hill, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and a long list of other R&B artists. At around the age of thirteen, I got into a lot of different genres of music. I got copies of Jimi Hendrix, 'Are You Experienced' and Dave Matthews, 'Under the Table and Dreaming'. That same Christmas, I was given my first guitar. I still did not start playing seriously until I was fourteen. I learned to play by ear and wrote my first song when I was around fourteen. My faith and hopes of finding love were the basis for a lot of the lyrical inspiration in my own songs. When I was fifteen I heard a local artist by the name of John Mayer. I fell in love with his finger style jazz. His music was great motivation to start taking my guitar playing seriously. Growing up in such a music saturated town (Athens, GA) I knew that I had to have talent and originality to be heard. So, at sixteen, I started trying to bring all of my influences together to create a whole new sound. I don't try to write over my head, I just write what I have experienced and to be honest I have not experienced much. Now I am in the midst of trying to find myself and find my place in the music world. Even though my passion lies with R&B/Soul. I am drawn and inspired by all types of music.
