Paddy McKeown is a sensational new solo artist from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He has been pegged as an impressive alternative maverick singer-songwriter who blends elements of Buckley, Radiohead, Metal, Middle-Eastern music and Jazz into emotional musical adventures, which leave you wanting more...and more...and more...
Paddy was born in Belfast in 1979. His musical life started at an early age and later developed into a serious interest during his teens when he 'discovered' rock. Paddy went on to study music in Bangor (N.Ireland) where he was exposed to a much broader range of music, including contemporary classical, and where he was first drawn to singing. Over these later teenage years he began crafting his songwriting style and went about forming various groups, none of which were to last. Due to his emerging eclectic taste, and after a couple of years away from education, Paddy decided to move to Devon, England, where he was to continue his musical education at Dartington College of Arts.""...Other forms of music inspire and enthral me too, maybe just in different ways - like modern Western formal music, which can be emotionally and intellectually challenging; or some of the more eccentric stuff can just be entertaining and amusing in a kind of ridiculous way!"" Whilst there Paddy gathered together some musicians from DCA to perform some of the songs he had written over the previous few years (incl. Inside, Short and Sweet, Leo, On A Train Over The Forth and Destiny, Baby). After arranging and performing these songs he recorded the latter three in the college studio and produced his first EP, rather unimaginatively entitled, dca EP!
During autumn of 2003 and as part of his studies at DCA, Paddy went to New York City ""to check stuff out"" and performed in various venues incl. CBs Gallery, The Pioneer, Sidewalk Cafe and the Blah Blah Lounge. The trip inspired Paddy to write a set of new songs, some of which were later arranged and recorded with a group of musicians/friends at Headlands Studio, Torquay. These tracks, ""Scene In The Park"" and ""Vanishing Magician"", along with ""Scathing Song"" (a third song which Paddy recorded solo in DCA recording studio) have now been released under the EP title ""Passing By"". Both EPs can be bought from www.paddymckeown.com or from www.cdbaby.com/pmckeown (audio and more info can be found on www.paddymckeown.com or www.myspace.com/patrickmckeown).
Since leaving DCA, Paddy has had songs played on Across The Line (Radio Ulster) and various international stations, appeared on the Just Jones Show (Radio Ulster), recorded a session for Raidi Na Lif (106.4fm, Dublin) and performed in a multitude of venues amongst other things. Now performing solo, with violinist Ruby Colley (from upcoming Belfast band Cava, www.myspace.com/cavamusic), or with a full band, Paddy is continuously building a loyal international following through gigs and a considerable online presence. Paddy has attracted well over 2000 fans in the past few months alone through www.myspace.com/patrickmckeown and his own website. And with his mailing list and street team steadily growing, with great reviews coming from noteworthy local sites like www.fastfude.com, and the Arts Council of NI awarding him a sizeable development grant, Paddy is set to make a significant impact.
In the near future Paddy is due to record with Belfast based producer Declan Legge and will be appearing more and more regularly throughout the UK and Ireland.

Vanishing Magician
The folky acoustic fingerpicking of VANISHING MAGICIAN heralds another musical adventure. Changing time signatures catch you by surprise, as Patricks vocals weave in and out of the classy guitar and take you in unusual directions, morphing from chilled out folk to operatic falsetto with unnerving ease." - UK Music Search

Scathing Song
"SCATHING SONG, takes a much simpler route as a gentle acoustic guitar is picked against the quietly menacing vocals, the dark lyricism acting as the magnetic centrepiece and replacing the avant-garde free jazz complexities of the two former songs." UK Music Search
