Ranging from sweetly simple to intensely intricate, this singer/songwriter delivers songs that are addictive to the discerning ear. A welcoming live performance draws his audiences into an exciting musical experience blended with captivating lyrics, honesty, and a touch of humour. As a singer/songwriter, Troy Western delivers passionate acoustic-based songs that are aurally pleasing, emotionally captivating, and musically intense with a flair of ""complex simplicity"".
Troy's first experience with the guitar was at age 9. Around the same time, he began exploring the world of musical theatre. These experiences helped him cultivate an engaging on-stage presence while developing his singing talents. After buying his first acoustic guitar in 1996, Troy put his musical and writing talents to work, composing his first couple of songs ""Into The Sun"" and ""Goodbye"". Shortly thereafter, he helped to form his first band, Redwood Shaman, with musician friends he knew from high school. With many fond memories, Troy recalls, ""It was like I was tossed into a group of super-talents. All of this amazing experienced talent came together in one group, and then there was me: the rookie."" This experience made a significant impact on his music career. ""It was more like an education than just being in a band.""
As Troy started his third year of college, the group disbanded and he focused on his education in the field of broadcasting. The following few years graced Troy with many positive life-changing experiences, including the opportunity to open for Canadian rock group Big Sugar. Troy's exciting acoustic version of ""Oh Canada"" was met with exuberant cheers from a 200+ crowd. This set an electrifying tone for this scaled-down version of Molson's ""Blind Date"" promotion, playfully called ""The Cheap Date"".
Troy's talents continued to grow as he played whenever and wherever he could. While honing his talents in a cover band, Troy continued to write, drawing inspiration from several different styles and sounds. Now, with a plethora of influences including Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, and John Mayer, Troy has an impenetrable drive to succeed as a singer/songwriter. ""For what it's worth, I have to live with my music. Whatever experiences grace my path, good or bad, I have to go with it, otherwise my life would be incomplete. This is who I am and what I will become.""
