After leading worship for many years, Stephen has decided to release his debut album entitled, "Turn". This CD certainly has a wide variety of musical styles and lyrical focus. With that being said, there is something identifying for the entire family. It contains songs of praise, songs of worship, songs of desperation, and songs of encouragement throughout it.
Stephen was born the only son of Pastor Virgil Phillips and his loving wife Judy. Growing up as the "son of a preacher man", Stephen was surrounded by the ministry. At the age of ten, Stephen began to hear the call of God and feel the passion of the anointing on his life. At that time, Stephen was just beginning to discover his love for music, and he felt that that was the life that God was calling him to lead. Stephen decided to pursue his passion for music and is now an accomplished pianist, drummer, and vocalist. He has even begun to test the waters as a music producer. He produced one song, "Rescue Me" for his debut album. He currently serves as Worship Pastor at the House of Blessings Worship Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Looking back on his life, Stephen is grateful for the example set by his parents and credits them for him becoming the person that he is today. “My parents never sacrificed their values or integrity,” he recalls. “Even during the darkest days of their ministry, they stood strong on the promise of God that ‘Though Darkness may last for the night, his joy cometh in the morning’.”
Stephen believes that in all things, God must be glorified through worship. “Everything I am, everything I desire to be, none of that is possible without God...” “Worship has revolutionized the church... revolutionized our lives as Christians... revolutionized our entire viewpoint... and revolutionized me”, he says.
