Every now and then, a band comes along that defies the current modern music trend, yet, creates a sound and collection of songs that stands alone in its substance and originality. Originally formed in the early eighties, Centaur immediately began to create a unique collection of original songs that rocked the club scene of their hometown of Jacksonville, Fla. Their live show was a spectacle that, not only, drew a large following of loyal Centaur fans, but, attracted many other local musicians as well. If Centaur was in the house, the house was rockin’. And if Centaur wasn’t rockin’ live, you could put a quarter in the jukebox and rock out to their only released single, Rock Hard. That was the Centaur maxim. They did “Rock Hard”.
And twenty years later, they still “Rock Hard”. The five original members, Mike Reese on vocals, guitarist Karl Schnabel, keyboardist Simon Crews, bassist Brad Blackwell, and drummer Tony Brown, have came together, once again, to record their collection of original material, and to create new songs that are sure to be just as memorable. Having resolved personal issues that split the band in 1987, it is time to finish what they started. Their self-titled album, “Centaur”, is in the can, and will be available for sale soon. Progress on the album has been amazing, and it shows no signs of a twenty year layoff. Quite the contrary, the sound is more refined and confirms that good songwriting stands the test of time.
