'Poseurs', the name of composer/producer Dean Smith's solo project immediately raises a question -- On the odd name choice for a band with a singular core member, Smith adds, "The name is a total joke. Everywhere, every day all I hear when I talk to anyone about music is how this band or that guy is ripping off that band or this guy... I got fucking tired of it. In actuality, everyone who has written or recorded a song since the very first one is a rip-off, or a poseur. Even though noone can really trace the first song or musician back to an absolute date, we still realize that it didn't happen in any of our lifetimes, so I couldn't understand the logic behind everyone's bitching... It was stupid. I've seen it happen in almost every possible situation in life when involving someone questioning another's individuality. Truth is, there are no completely individual and original thoughts or ideas this far into history. That's what the name pokes fun at. Hopefully, this band name and the subsequent music will confuse those people into depression, which will in turn lead to apathy, which will in turn lead to my eyes and ears getting a much-deserved break. Or atleast, people might think it's kind of funny for a while."
