Born in Caracas, Venezuela. Started making music at age 15 with his mother's Spanish guitar, a few chords, and a group of friends. Moved to the US at 18, and has been developing his style and sound since then. Now 28, he can be spotted anywhere between San Francisco, NYC and Barcelona. The sound can be described as that of a latin troubadour with subtle nods to 60's textures, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms, Spanish Flamenco, and a strong emphasis on appealing melody lines and vocal harmonies. He plays with sounds and ideas that he considers need to be rescued or revisited. Acustic for now, a little bit of electric if needed, He plays with many tendencies yet he's bound by none. Joan explains, "" I can't live with just one sound, with just one environment, one type of food, one thing that repeats endlessly, my need for change is very strong and so I incorporate whatever sounds I find attractive into my work. This is probably a natural tendency for some people. Hegemony needs to go, the world is small, and fusion is inevitable, it is, in fact, exciting and evolutionary"" As for the lyrical content, well, I like to let the stream of consciousness flow... I've found that in this way, very interesting and important ideas come forth. Sounds, frequencies, harmonies, melodies, it is all such a mystery. Some things appeal to ones and not to others... I am very curious to see what my crowd is going to be like... Hope you like it, and write a note if you do, Cerqueiro remains officially unpublished. Joan
