I hope my songs are entertaining enough to make you listen and deep enough to make you think.
I use high school English class for my lyrics. The music is any mix of what I have heard since "Dungaree Doll" (my favourite in the early fifties as a pre-school kid). The Ventures sealed my fate as a wannabee guitarist. Also, I was blown away by "Do You Want to Know a Secret" by the Beatles and "She's Not There" by the Zombies.
I spent a lot of time in a canoe when I was young. Our little mining town in northern Ontario was surrounded by a wilderness of lakes, rivers and forest. I'm sad when I think of how perfect it all was.
Frank Zappa's records ended up with me because no one else in our town liked his music. I got turned off rock in the seventies and listened to folk music: celtic, bluegrass and mountain. But I loved the "new wave" revival of pop in the late 70's and early 80's. British pop is my fave. I find jazz books great for learning more about how music can be made to sound good. Currently I play-out with a four-piece classic rock cover band.
I was a publisher for twelve years, but now I have a "kozy" job in Saskatchewan driving a welding rig around to do repairs in the oil fields and on the huge farms they have here. I'm a blue collar guy at heart. My wife and I love Saskatchewan altho' our kids and grandkids are all still in Thunder Bay, Ontario thirteen hours away, not too bad. Life is good in Oxbow SK booming economy, low cost of living and friendly, unassuming people. The prairies are beautiful, but when I retire I'll return to the boreal forest.
I value God, family, friends, music and nature in that order. I think my songs are good but not wonderful and look forward to any suggestions.
