Matt Curreri is a songwriter/rocker whose album 'How to Play the Songs of Matt Curreri' (City Salvage Records) has earned glowing reviews all over America.

He's been compared to the Beatles, Bright Eyes, Belle & Sebastian, the Von Bondies, Will Oldham, and the Beach Boys.
He often performs in a band (The Exfriends) with pianist/songwriter Joanie Mendenhall, bassist Pete Hamilton, violinist/guitarist Ray Suen, and Tyler on drums.
Matt grew up mostly in a woodsy suburb of Richmond, Virginia, under the influence of his talented country-blues artist brother, Paul Curreri. At 10 he took up the saxophone, and at 13 he started singing in a rock band.
While studying literature at the University of Notre Dame, he turned his attention fully to writing, recording, and performing. His band was called The Florida Evans Showband and Revue.
Then, while working in New York City as a high school math teacher, he developed further as a writer and performer, and recording artist. 'How to Play the Songs of Matt Curreri' was recorded over a long New York City winter in the basement of Matt's Chinatown apartment.
Andy Friedman and Paul Curreri liked the basement recordings very much and invited Matt to join the tragically wonderful City Salvage Records.
Matt currently lives on the California coast, about 30 miles north of Mexico with the lovely and talented Joanie Mendenhall. He teaches at The Winston School and gives private music lessons.
