Ivan Penn is a veteran journalist who has worked for three of the nation's top newspapers (The Miami Herald, The Baltimore and currently The St. Petersburg Times), a manager and producer of performing arts, and a trumpet player. He has produced concert performances of the music ensemble from the play Passages of Martin Luther King. He was the associate producer and casting director of the St. Petersburg, Fla., dramatic reading of Passages that featured a Q&A with the play's author, grammy and emmy award winner Clayborne Carson, a Stanford University Professor and director of the King Papers at Stanford and Morehouse College. Ivan received his bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in Afro-American Studies from the University of Maryland and was selected as a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University in 2005. He performed with the University of Maryland Gospel Choir and the Stanford Gospel Choir. In his first recording, Ivan performed on his wife September's debut CD, "Hope for You," for the song "Free." He and September perform together regularly, most recently at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention Gospel Brunch in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 9, 2009. |
