Earl Clifton And The Pin-Ups is a two-piece (husband and wife) "plug in and play" modern rock band with a nostalgic appeal, a power house mix of alternative rock, punkified blues, folk, and pure rock -n- roll muscle!
Their music has been compared to many great bands like the Ramones, the BEATLES, the White Stripes, Hendrix, the New York Dolls, the Cars, Black Sabbath and even the Kinks!
“Earl Clifton” as portrayed by Cliff Meekins (Guitars / Main vocals) is the leader of this creation. Betty Lynn Clifton, Earl’s wife (Erika Meekins) holds the beat down supporting Earl’s songs and grinding guitars. Their stage names were adopted from the pet names they gave each other, Cliffs middle name is “Earl” in which Erika often calls him as a joke. “Betty” was a nick name Cliff gave Erika as a counter joke of sorts. Nonetheless the band name was adopted when the two started out with a bass player -Nikki Baskette. Nikki and “Betty” were the “Pin-Ups” and they just tagged that to the end of Earl Cliftons name, hence “Earl Clifton and The Pin-Ups” became the group name. Nikki ended up leaving the original three-piece to go to school leaving Earl and Betty to seek out a replacement bass or keyboard player. With no luck in their search the two decided to keep recording their songs in which Earl would overdub the bass and keys when needed. By the end of the year their first album was complete and supported by a debut radio single! Currently the band is rehearsing for the spring, summer, and fall of 2006. They intend to play festivals, and showcases, with a few clubs in between.
