Star Belgrade have had a fantastic opening to their career which began with a bedroom demo recorded on a 4 track tape recorder. Within days of sending out the tapes, ""Red Arc"" was broadcast by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1.
""It just goes to show you that you don't necessarily have to go into a big, expensive 24 track studio to make something that will grab people's attention... that's a real grower that track""
(Steve Lamacq)
From there, the radio interest grew. For Aligre FM in Paris they recorded a session which recieved heavy airplay & featured in the stations Top 30 playlist amongst the likes of Interpol, Frank Black, Coldplay & David Bowie. ""Red Arc"" continues to be broadcast on independant stations & podcasts throughout Europe & the UK.
The band have maximized the use of the Internet to circulate their music. Since the launch of their web page on CPU.ie in February '06, their songs have been dowloaded by an incredible 16,000 listeners, making them the website's most downloaded unsigned Irish band of all time.
Star Belgrade began gigging in March '06 & have notched up four well attended & well recieved gigs, including two headline slots in Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre. Freelance journalist Paul Galbally had this to say about their live set :
""Star Belgrade have purpose, that's apparent from the minute they take the stage. Their sound is wide and large, with a technological feel, that isn't clinical. Mike's stage presence is big, and they have a brooding and expectant air that makes listening to them an exciting and visceral experience. The material is excellent, and they give each number plenty of time to develop and allow the soundscapes to grow in unison as a musical unit. Their playing is technically excellent and inventive. This is all but their 3rd gig. Now that's impressive""
The band are set to enter the studio for the first time to record their debut EP. A nationwide release and tour will begin later this summer.
