Moontan is the alias of Bronx born Recording Artist, Richard Jay.
First hitting the New York scene in 2000, Moontan initially slugged it out as a solo acoustic act: Playing for tips in coffee shops, doing local bar gigs, and hitting every open mic in existence.
Out of his rent-stabilized apartment in Hell's Kitchen, NYC, Moontan founded Brownhouse Studios in 2001. It quickly become a guerilla music production house: Indie film scoring, video-game music development, demos/albums for local songwriters. A one-man-band was forged out of this experience. This was the format for the early Moontan recordings.
Also along the way other musicians began to join in for the live Moontan performances. Including, most recently, Christina Mason on Keyboards, Lincoln Turner on Bass and Askia Egishira on Drums.
The new Moontan album ---- which will be released independently, on Moontan's own Brownhouse Records --- is produced by acclaimed engineer Zach McNees (Bjork, Paul Simon, Destiny's Child).
