Chicago's Skip Towne & The Greyhounds personify hard driving, heartfelt classic blues, jazz, swing, ballads, and downright good time Rockin' Blues that you can't refuse!. The band has been regularly performing acoustically as a 3 PIECE up to an electric 10 PIECE BAND around the Midwest and frequently in Chicago area clubs such as The Park West, Buddy Guy Legends, Famous Dave's, Beale Street Blues Café, Frankie's Blue Room, Penny Road Pub, The Brat Stop, Porter's Oyster Bar, Cubby Bear North, Flatlander’s, Port of Blarney, Blarney's Island, Pete Miller's, and The Firkin. The Band also plays for any type of Concert, Festival, Wedding, Private and Corporate Event.
Skip Towne & The Greyhounds' members can be found appearing anywhere from People Magazine to VH1 (with William Shatner), Live Radio (WJKL 94.3 FM "Hambone's Blues Hour"), TV, and even Movie Soundtracks (“Bulletproof Heart” in science fiction thriller, "Changingman"). Don't forget their stints with Jump'n the Saddle Band (#1 INTERNATIONAL HIT with "THE CURLY SHUFFLE" (BILLBOARD # 15), Mickey & the Memories, Midnight, Traffic Jam, Night Flight, RPM, Small Shiny Things, Grasslands Acoustic Rock’n Roll Trio, and Ex-Five Year Jacket .. "Brother John" has toured and played world-wide with such greats as Eric Clapton, Maceo Parker, Black Crowes, George Benson, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and Otis Rush — from the "TONIGHT SHOW" to the CHICAGO BLUES FESTIVAL!
Skip Towne & The Greyhounds capture audiences with their own top notch brand of "The Blues with a Feeling"! The XXX dynamic, large-size vocals of Peter Quinn are a must to be heard. He sings the classics, the ballads, and ALL the blues with such hard pushing drive and emotion that crowds always fall for Peter's special delivery!
The power-packed "Big House Horns" consists of veteran saxman, Tom "Shoes" Trinka, joined by Peter Quinn on harmonica. Johnny "Showtime" Janowiak (Grammy Nominated, Liquid Soul), and Kenny Anderson (Ohio Players), are often added for larger shows. The Big House Boys excel at solo and section work.
Everyone will hear a lifetime of devotion to the Blues in the Guitar style of Harry Reinhart (Midnight, Traffic Jam). Radiant chords and smokin', tasty solos are his specialty.
“Brother John” Kattke has played with Eric Clapton, Steve Miller, the Black Crowes and acquired ringing endorsements from many other world renown musicians including Led Zeppelin vocalist, Robert Plant, “You play a mean guitar! And George Benson, “You’re fearless! I thought I was fearless!” A vital component of Buddy Guy’s and Koko Taylor bands, and prior leader of Otis Rush’s band for three years, John is a brilliant vocalist, guitarist and pianist.
From Steam-Train Rhythms to Chicago Shuffle Beats to soulful slow Blues numbers, the pairing of Jay Olaszek’s (Small Shiny Things, Grasslands Acoustic Rock’n Roll Trio, and Ex-Five Year Jacket .) bass and Jim Murray's (Nightflight, RPM, Michael McDermott) drums make the music a total groove. Skip's rhythm section is a unified pounding heartbeat resulting from a rich blend of their music theory backgrounds with years of studio work and live performances.
INFLUENCES: Taj Mahal, Muddy Waters, Louis Jordan, David Sanborn, Grover Washington, Jaco Pastorius, Robben Ford, Jimi Hendrix, Los Lobos, and Jump'n the Saddle Band.
