Skully chats about the making of the video for Sousoundé

Sousoundé is currently streaming on the Métisse profile, at www.myspace.com/metisse

"Of course we filmed the video in deepest freezing winter, in London!
which was the only place that had a studio that could handle huge
amounts of freezing cold water. The set had been specially built and
tested before we got there.

Aida had been rehearsing how to sing Sousounde from start to finish
in reverse for weeks, and a speech coach was on hand at the shoot to help
her with some of the pronunciation. I had practiced my role to, as I
wanted to do all the stunts myself!

The shoot took a whole day, and some 30 takes, a laundry room had
been set up to dry each set of clothes as we came off the set, make
up, hair, and stylists worked on us like surgeons to get us ready for
the next take. I felt like a carcass at a hyena party!

The whole video was shot backwards, the music in reverse, and
starting at the bed, great care was taken to keep the camera dry, the
film crew and Zowie Broach the director looked like north sea
fishermen out looking for cod!

When we finally got the perfect take, the relief in the whole crew
was palpable, everyone cheered as Aida and I collapsed into a pile of
mush!

There are two versions of the video, one is unedited and shows the
whole take from start to finish without a single cut, the other is
the version on the Metisse Myspace site, that has been edited to
show some of the subtle effects, i.e.: Aida's bracelets sliding up,
water dripping up to my face, fish (not cod) swimming backwards, and
Aida's dress drying out at the end.....

It took us all weeks to recover after it, but I think you will agree,
it was well worth the effort?"

Skully.
