Second Wind
I was pushing through the thirties, running hard against the gale
Chasing dreams like paper cups, watchin’ some of them sail
Forties hit like crosswinds, knocked me sideways, spun me ‘round
By fifty-five the tank felt dry, feet still dragging on the ground
But the sky don’t quit on you, it just waits for the right hour
I caught a second wind, blowing strong at sixty
Tailwind on these old bones, liftin’ up my story
Ain’t no finish line, just another open road
Like fine wine in a ‘65, still burning hot and cold
Yeah, I caught a second wind – thank God for the second wind
Hair gone silver, stories deep as rings on an old oak tree
Kids all grown, grandbabies laughing, calling me their favorite G
I’ve weathered every nor’easter, felt the calm after the storm
Now I’m planting seeds I used to chase, watching new life take its form
Milkweed pods are open wide, wind is calling out my name
I caught a second wind, blowing strong at sixty
Tailwind on these old bones, lifting up my story
Ain’t no finish line, just another open road
Like fine wine in a ‘65, still burning hot and cold
Yeah, I caught a second wind – thank God for the second wind
No more racing younger legs, no more keeping up the pace
I’m leaning in the gusts I know, smiling at the chase
Every scar’s a roadmap, every gray hair’s earned its place
This ain’t the end, it’s the best part – wide open space
I caught a second wind, blowing strong at sixty
Dancing in the kitchen, riding bikes across the country
Love like harvest moonlight, heart still wild and free
The best years ain’t behind me – they’re riding here with me
Yeah, I caught a second wind…
Come on and catch it with me… second wind
Blowing strong… at sixty…
Thank God for the second wind
(Fade with pedal steel guitar and piano)
