At Close Range
I gave you everything I could I thought we had something good
Not just a casual fling but all you did was criticize
Like a bullet between the eyes, diplomacy was not your thing
And you know it's kind of strange to see you at close range
I thought I knew you well but secrets you could not tell
Kept me in the dark from the start and sometimes I see the death of hope
Underneath my microscope but it's just the breaking of my heart
And the truth is so insane when it's in my face at close range
We had some good times together
But those days are hard to remember
We've got too much history
Don't shoot down my dreams again,
Don't pretend you are my friend
Just leave me with my dignity
If I knew what was true I never would have been with you
The way you acted was a crime, now I'm left with this regret
There are things I can't forget like how I wasted so much time
And your words are a sad refrain when I hear them at close range
You say you're leaving for the coast but the pain that hurts the most
Is how you let me down, I tried to compromise
But you kept telling lies, you treated me like a clown
And you know it's hard to change when I'm shot down at close range
We had some good times together
But those days are hard to remember
We've got too much history
Don't shoot down my dreams again,
Don't pretend you are my friend
Just leave me with my dignity
Now we go our separate ways, our love was just a phase
That we were going through, but as you get aboard that plane
My tears just fall like rain , what else can I do
My life will never be the same as it I lose it at close range
