Hey, hey, hey Virginia waterways
Potomac, Rappahanock, York and James
Hey, hey, hey Virginia Waterways
Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay
The Potomac is the river in the north
Flowing down to Washington DC
Rappahanock’s next, goin through Fredericksburg
Empties out into the Chesapeake
The York’s the next one down, down toYorktown
History made that town a famous name
And the river in the south that flows through Richmond and Jamestown
They named that river after their King James!
Chorus
These rivers all empty into the Chesapeake
A bay they used for harbor to keep safe
They traveled on the water and found their food there
Cruisin on the Chesapeake Bay!
The Chesapeake leads to the Atlantic
Where people traveled here from near and far
They had to use these waterways to get around now
Until they invented planes and trains and cars!
Chorus
Let’s sail up one of Virginia’s rivers
Find some places to settle and explore
Until we reach that place called the Fall Line (STOP!)
We’re walkin’ now, we can’t sail no more!
Standin out here on this peninsula
Stranded out on the Eastern Shore
Water to the left and right and in front of me
Between the ocean and the bay (let’s sing some more!)
Chorus
