My Friend Gypsy is a blend of Reggae, Folk Rock, R&B and pop. Each instrument is playing a different style if you listen closely, making it a comfortable crossover song.

I wrote this song when I was 18, 37 years ago. It was the early 70's. I met Gypsy whe I was 16 and on the streets. He was my best friend at the time. Gypsy would take way too much LSD(up to a hundred hits at at time someimes)of primo early 70's LSD. Eventually this path led him in and out of jail. He eventually got hooked on heroin and his parents finally came and got him, took him away to a rehab on the East Coast. I never saw him again. The song is about losing my best friend to LSD, and heroin.
The lyrics have many metaphors from that era. I recorded this in 2006, using only my Martin acoustic for all string parts except bass.

My Friend Gypsy he wants to be a cowboy someday
Ride through the desert, as the sun is falling to the purple haze at twilight
My Friend Gypsy he lives in a daydream all day
Waits for the time to come so he can hit the trail and sing the songs that he’ll make up on the way
Chorus
Goodbye Gypsy I hope to see you again someday
We’ll Drink some beer and dance with the girls that you left behind
Or if I had a pony I’d be on the trail behind you
Catchin’ up to you in Indian style
But Gypsy remember I’m catchin’ up to you in my mind
Woh-oh!
My Friend Gypsy he bought himself a horse you see
But before he left he waved good-bye said he’s gonna’ name his horse after me
My Friend Gypsy he lives in a daydream all day
Chorus
Well I’m catchin’ up to you.. Well I’m catchin’ up to you in my mind
Woh-oh-oh
