This song is, stylistically, quite a departure for me. It has a gospel feel to it, which will be reinforced when I get backing vocals recorded by a choir.

This song was inspired by the situation that a friend of mine was in recently - he was suffering from terminal cancer. I thought about how I might be feeling in that situation, and was inspired by a metaphor in the Bible - "We have this treasure in jars of clay so that we know that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us" (2 Corinthians 4:7). I was really struck by this idea that our fragile bodies are like jars of clay, but that it's ok that one day they will break - because then a lasting treasure, the real - spiritual - us - will be revealed.

Lord, I feel my time is near
You've numbered my days on this earth
The time for peace-making, not healing, is here
Show yourself, show yourself to me
These jars of clay will shatter
Reveal the treasure within
These jars of clay will shatter
I'll be free from my sin
Those I love, Lord, those I love will weep
But not without your steadying hand
Your all-surpassing power will make me as new
As I come home to victory with you
These jars of clay will shatter
Reveal the treasure within
These jars of clay will shatter
I'll be free from my sin
Though my body may be failing
It is not the end of me
But the start of a new life
Clothed in victory
These jars of clay will shatter
Reveal the treasure within
These jars of clay will shatter
I'll be free from my sin
I'll be free from my sin
I'll be fre from my, free from my sin
I'll be free from my sin
