I wrote this song as a response to the story "History of A Disturbance" by Steven Millhauser from the March 2007 issue of the New Yorker.

I credit my then-apartment-mate and friend Tad for telling me to read the New Yorker article "History of a Disturbance" which inspired the lyrics. I credit Ben Gibbard of Death Cab and Postal Service for inspiring the chorus line "Can you remind me, the day we woke from our silhouttes" which is a nod to his Postal service song "We Will Become Silhouttes." Trivia: I wrote this song about 10 blocks from where Jen Wood, the female singer for Postal Service works as a barista.

The song "Vow of Silence" is written from the perspective of the wife who's husband in the story "History of A Disturbance" has taken a vow of silence.

See www.myspace.com/eyelidsofdawn for a live video of an acoustic Seattle show coffee shop show in August 2007.
Vow of Silence Lyrics

V
Your eyes they always look vacant
Since you gave up on the promise of speech
Maybe I should have waited
