Some interesting guitar chords in this one, IIDSSM. There are some nice voicings that took me awhile to learn to play.

It's a song about the kind of people who sleepwalk through life, never examining it, never growing, never appreciating its miraculous nature. My 95 year old dad is not as invested in life as he once was. He was once a big presence, but he has begun to fade - he's what started me writing this song.

Sleeping your life away
Right in the light of day
Just as you'll always stay
Until you fade away
Mortgage has all been paid
Thinking you have it made
All of it's gonna fade
It isn't true that only sleepers dream
And you are not awake as it may seem
And every day you watch the world go by
And you sigh
I don't know when your ears first turned to stone
The world sings its song for you alone
And how I wish that I could make you hear
Past your fear
In that sky you're under
Rumbling of thunder
Can't disturb your slumber
Kind of makes me wonder
There's still a chance that you may yet awake
To count a hundred candles on your cake
But I can't teach a candle how to burn
When will I learn
Sleeping your life away
Right in the light of day
Just as you'll always stay
Until you fade away
Mortgage has all been paid
Thinking you have it made
Thinking you made the grade
All of it's gonna fade
