I've had the metaphor "'Til they tear the last brick loose from the Appian Way" in my head for a long time. The Appian Way is a road built over 2000 years ago connecting Rome with a few other key cities. Parts of it are still in use today. It's my way of saying "forever."

All roads lead to Rome
Except the one you're on
That one leads you nowhere
If you travel all alone
But if you walk by my side
Then hand in hand we'll stay
"Til the tear the last brick loose
From the Appian Way
Oceans rise and fall
Mountains come and go
Somehow through it all
Love will see us through
Cities built to last
Can crumble in an hour
The earth can shake beneath them
Consuming every lofty tower
If we hold each other close
There's no need to feel afraid
'Til they tear the last brick loose
From the Appian Way
(Chorus)
Dissolve the hands of time
And all the chains that bind
And you and I can wander
And who knows what we'll find
Beyond our limitations
Forever and a day
'Til they tear the last brick loose
From the Appian Way
