A metaphorical ballad. The best song I've written in a long time. This song was produced by the amazing Bob Elliott.

Music/Lyrics/Singing/Playing/Costumes: Tom O'Brien, production:Bob Elliott

A song of hope. After a 5 year relationship with someone with bipolar disorder, she's just now maybe getting better.
After 5 years of darkness
After 5 years of night
Like a field full of sunflowers
Straining for the light
You have thrown off the covers
Of your hospital bed
And you just might recover
Though you thought you were dead

Arise, Lazarus, arise
Come to me and open up your eyes
I am not your savior
But I know he'll be here soon
Arise

In the blue, waning moonlight
At the crust of the day
When the morning is waiting
For that very first ray
And I watch you in slumber
And I pray that you dream
Was the love you remember
Quite as good as it seems?

Arise, Lazarus, Arise
Come to me and open up your eyes
I am not your savior
But I know he'll be here soon
Arise

The crowd is outside waiting for you now
The shroud is off so come and take a bow

Have you crossed every river
Just to rot in some tomb?
I think death is forever
And it comes way too soon
There's a way you can beat it
And the way is to live
You will not be defeated
If you'll only believe

Arise, Lazarus, arise
Come to me and open up your eyes
I am not your savior
But I know he'll be here soon
Arise, Lazarus, arise
Come to me and open up your eyes
I am not your savior
But I know he'll be here soon
Arise x

In the Artists Own Words
My song Lazarus is a rather personal story about my partner of five years and her coming into a better period after a lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder. She's not fully where she wants to be yet, but it is a song about the hope that comes with therapy and medication and, hopefully, a loving boyfriend. It is a simple song with just one voice and one guitar, but I think its haunting melody and poetry carry it well. I didn't want any crazy arrangement ideas to get in the way of the message.
