I almost forgot I play flute - this one has a little caliente beat and then a wide open pop-rock chorus. It's light and heavy at the same time.

Lyrics/Music/Singing/Playing/Set Decorator/Arranging/Recording: Tom O'Brien

I had this friend, Annalisa, forever. Our friends always compared us to "When Harry met Sally" and figured we'd end up together. After many years of friendship, we tried actually being a couple but it didn't work for her - I'm still not sure why. We both thought we'd never be in a relationship again - our hearts had been broken. When she said she didn't want to be in one with me, it truly broke not only my heart, but my brain.
Our friends al used to say
That we'd hook up one day
We said we never would
Our friendship was too good
And as the years went by
We often wondered why
We'd share a friendly kiss
But nothing more than this

Not only did you break my heart
I think you broke my brain
And what's left of the working part
Is hard to ascertain
It was so little at the start
And little yet remains
I think you broke
I think you broke
My brain

You had your many men
I wasn't one of them
You waited for the one
You knew one day would come
You used to share with me
Our every fantasy
And in my heart I knew
It could be me and you

(Chorus)

And when the scales fell from your eyes
And when you saw me standing there
I don't know who was more surprised
But in the end I didn't care

And when the truth was told
It seems your heart grew cold
When you took back your hand
I was a lonely man
I couldn't catch my breath
Cuz there was nothing left
I was alone again
Somehow I lost my friend

(Chorus) x
