"The Sea Inside" is the title of a book, can't recall the author - Segal maybe. It's about the mind. This song was written thinking about the amazing mind of my friend and collaborator, Bob Elliott.

There's such a stormy sea inside
It's miles deep and miles wide
And sometimes in its depths you hide
Embarrassment or wounded pride
And in the dark, the gentle glow
Of jellyfish you see below
Illuminates the world just so
You always find a way to go
You watch the lives of others float on by
And dream about the bottom of the sky
Yours is not an easy brain
Sometimes I wonder how you came
To know the thing that you explain
To feel the rhythm of the rain
You're singing in the stormy sea
There is no place you'd rather be
And now and then you sing to me
Your very own philosophy
You watch the lives of others float on by
And dream about the bottom of the sky
And as the water rushes in
To wash you clean of all your sin
Into its mouth you now descend
You're ready to begin again
You dive headlong into a wave
In cold that others would not brave
You're always one to misbehave
And let the others play it safe
You watch the lives of others float on by
And dream about the bottom of the sky
