A small tale of South London

Lyrics and music James O'Brien, Arranged by Chavo

I was riding on an empty bus when a fella sat down beside,
His mobile phone was playing songs I did not recognise,
I asked him could he turn it down, the vocoder I decry,
He turned to me and sucked his tooth and gave me his reply...

*
Learn to love it,
Why don't ya,
Learn to love it,
Why don't ya,
This is a beautiful thing.

We were half way up the Walworth Road stand it longer I could not,
I said excuse me I'm getting off, mine's the next stop,
He didn't move an inch and so I pushed through for the door,
His mobile phone fell from his hands and shattered on the floor...

So I'm on the street and incommunicado's in pursuit,
His mobile phone is in both hands and some in his tracksuit,
I shout out to the driver, hey conductor you must,
Slow down I've got off far too soon won't you let me on the bus.
With receding red, I turn and find I've nowhere left to run,
When out of nowhere, all the street lights are spinning like the sun,

So I'm riding on an empty bus when fella sits down beside,
His mobile phone is playing songs I did not recognise,
I asked of him to turn it down, the vocoder I decry,
He turned to me and donned his cap and gave me his reply,
And in my ears a shadow sneers that all is quid pro quo,
And I say "well hello Satan, yes I believe it's time to go". x
