Johann Pachelbel scored his "Canon in D Major" for three violins and basso continuo. Although composed about 1680–90, the piece was not published until the early 20th century and has become one of the most widely performed pieces of Baroque music.

The present arrangement features harp and nylon string guitar. The two variations preserve the basso continuo feature of the original canon. Variation II is written in 19/4 time and is phrased 33222322.
