Song about a dog

|
Prince among the dogs
Prince among the dogs, i heard the patter feet,
I sat right down beside him, to where his end did meet;
I could offer him a lifeline if I only had the means,
Ah prince among the dogs he was tearing at my jeans.
I didn’t always treat that dog the way a man should do,
Kindness if a kingly form that a prince cannot imbue.
But I swear by heaven and the angels running up above,
I’d give that dog my very life for a prince that was too good.
You can love that prince, beat that prince, shut him in the yard,
You can hear his howls, hear his pangs, his love you can discard.
But a prince amongst the dogs would never dare refrain,
From the loyalty and the love that makes Prince a prince’s name.
