AT THE RIVERS END
I was on a Mississippi steamer
It was the perfect morning for a fever dream
I woke to the whack of a gator's tail
And some old guy raving 'bout the Holy Grail
He told me "Boy it's buried way down south
It's hidden in the swamp near the river mouth"
I said "Please sir where can I found out more?"
He pointed "In that saloon there on yonder shore"
So I went in just to get some news
You know I met a girl there who sang the blues
She said "There's cold water up round the bend
And there is hot rain at the river's end"
The sun was getting high
When I tripped on a toad and began to fly
I landed in the lair of a Cajun Queen
I said "Sorry ma'am don't mean to make a scene"
So I explained exactly where I was at
And then she took a saucer and drew on a map
I went to the spot marked with an X
But there was just an old time teahouse there
So I went in just to try some brews
You know I met a girl there who sang the blues
She said "There's cold water up round the bend
And there is hot rain at the river's end"
I finally found that swamp alright
I dug for forty days and for forty nights
My dirty shirt was torn as was my tent
Then I heard a voice from above say repent
So I turned around, hitched a paddle ride
Until I heard the sound of a gospel choir
It came from a church perched on a hill
So I went on up, put my hat on the sill
And then I walked in just to pay my dues
You know I met a girl there who sang the blues
She said "There's cold water up round the bend
And there is hot rain at the river's end"
Yeah I walked in and kicked off my shoes
You know I met a girl there who sang the blues
She said "There's cold water up round the bend
And there is hot rain at the river's end"
She said "There's cold cold water up round the bend
And there is hot rain at the river's end"
