GRIFTER ON THE RUN
They took up all that they had banned
To show you what they did for fun
And the laughter that they canned
Was wafting through the web it had spun
Like a Grifter on the Run
They stood a book up on the stand
To show you what it was they'd done
And its golden satin band
Was playing to the tip of its tongue
Like a Grifter on the Run
They drew a line down in the sand
To show you what it was they'd won
And the standard in their hand
Was fraying and fading from the sun
Like a Grifter on the Run
