He took beautiful sunrise pictures
Outside his house near Joshua Tree
With that same big cactus
All different as can be
His timing was impeccable
He never missed a one
He made sure he was always there
To see the rising sun
He'd sing at local diners
Go motorcycle ridin'
He'd plan his trips with gusto
I'd watch the man decidin'
He spoke his mind on facebook
I'd always have the thought
I'd gladly trade my life for his
this brand of freedom sought
I’d been thinkin' what if I were free like Danny
Just doin what he feels like
Every single day
I'm pretty anti-social
but I planned to meet him someday
His life just seemed so magical
but I waited too long
It hit me like a bullet
the day I saw his fate
a motorcycle accident
gave Danny a clean slate
Spirits like him just go fast
It's almost by design
He marched along on his own path
and left his friends behind
but everyone sure was better off
for knowing him at all
One time he sung one of my songs
a tune called Kavanaugh
He sang God in his own voice
John Lennon didn't have his pipes
He knew more songs than anyone
He'd play whatever he likes
I’d been wishin’ I could be as free as Danny
Just doin what he feels like
Every single day
I never got to meet him
but we talked every day
Mornings aren't the same no more
now that he's gone away
I used his sunrise pictures
on my desktop background
but I can't do so anymore
they make me too damn sad
but if you shut your eyes now
you can hear his golden voice
and my oh my the life he lived
we only can rejoice
