Los Angeles based Singer/Songwriter Lauren Nikohl, a Minnesota native, released her first EDM single on Friday, July 20th, 2018. The producer on the track is Grammy-winning and Billboard-charting artist, Robert Eibach. The two have worked together a few times before, once on a remix for her debut EP “The Night,” and once more for a charity song recording of “We Are One” by David Longoria and friends. The music video for Against the Wind was directed by award-winning filmmaker Neil Watson.

The young songwriter began writing Against the Wind in frustration with how her music dreams were viewed, always hearing things like “Isn’t LA a dangerous place?” or “You want to be a starving artist?”. She had just moved to Los Angeles to pursue these dreams and had to fight a lot of criticism and self-doubt to get there. As the song progressed, Lauren felt that its message related largely to the political environment of the time. She hopes that the lyrics will motivate listeners to fight for their dreams even in the face of fear, to stand up for what’s right, and to not be silenced by hegemonic restrictions. The music video features a few stock video scenes of historical protests, amplifying this underlying message of freedom. A portion of the sales from this single will be donated to Represent.Us, a non-profit company working to end corruption in our government by getting big money out of elections.
