Not a protest song.I was watching the news and there was a story about this guy who set himself on fire. a witness described how it looked like he was dancing! This stuck with me and it made me think about the buddhist monk who set fire to himself. Quang Duc was protesting the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government. This in turn made me think of protesting and how it dosnt seem to make any difference. No One listens –

I set myself on fire and danced like a fool. No one noticed me, No no one at all and that’s the reason for this song. I’ve got nothing to say, I’ve got nothing to give, I don’t want a future If the future’s this, What they’re saying Sounds so wrong. This is not a protest song no. This is not a protest song so You don’t have to pay attention. This is not a protest song no. This is not a protest song so. Its just a form of self expression. This world is so big And this world is unfair, one percent is number, That no one can share And that’s the what it is Now. If you want a voice, If you want your say, You’ve got a vote, On Election Day, But you still lose out Somehow. This is not a protest song no. This is not a protest song so You don’t have to pay attention. This is not a protest song no, This is not a protest song so, Its just a form of self expression. We may be many, we may be many. But they never listen, no they never listen. We may be many, we may be many But they never listen, We’ve got to make them listen.
