Truth to Lies

was a Baron upon the land who was always seeking fame
claimed there wasn't a woman who he couldn't tame
lived in a hall of mirrors, permitted no disdain
"all behold my greatness" he'd constantly proclaim
looking left or right all I see is grey
whatever happened to black or white anyway?
seems like it all began when they elected the Baron King
he swore all would be good "I'll take care of everything
every day the sun will shine and I'll take away your pain"
as the gathered faithful tried to ignore the rain
instead of black or white everything's tinted grey
what happened to the truth anyway?
Scribes wrote of the King's reign causing his displeasure
while the Kingdom's Nobles were busy counting treasure
Heralds on the left and right, all wizen wizards of spin
who cares what's really real as long as our side wins

what have here now is a picture of an apple and banana

somehow the King didn't seem to know
that simply saying something doesn't make it so
