Song About First Love That Didn't Work Out. Written Many Years Later.
|
This song was written at the request of a friend about my first love that we both knew in high school many years ago. I didn't know what to write about, and the first thing that popped into my head was - I wonder if "anybody ever broke her heart" the way that she broke my. As a footnote, the girl who the song was written about did hear the song after it was finished and said she cried like a baby.

I've heard first loves - like a tattoo
Fades with time - but never really leaves you
Guess that's why - after all these years
Memories of you - never disappeared
What we had - ended long ago
And there's still nights - I need to know
Did you find - the answer to your dreams
And have you learned - what forever really means
Can't blame whiskey - or songs on the radio
It ain't people or places - it's everywhere I go
I tell myself I'm lucky - shouldn't have any regrets
But even time and distance - won't let me forget
What we had - ended long ago
And there's still nights - I need to know
Did you find - the answer to your dreams
And have you learned - what forever really means
Bridge -
Well I tried my best to turn the page
Close the book - act my age
Tip my hat and simply walk away
But somewhere in the heart of me
You still remain a part of me
A bittersweet memory that haunts my soul
I know its foolish pride - my dreams have all come true
All except the one - where I was loved by you
What we had ended long ago
And there's still nights - I need to know
Did you find - the answer to your dreams
And have you learned - what forever really means
And did anybody ever break your heart
Tell me did anybody ever take your, did anybody ever shake your, did anybody ever break___ your heart?
