There's a world out there, but the farm keeps you close
|
It's five o'clock in the mornin'
I don't want to get out of bed.
But there's weeds in the beans and more in the corn,
The cattle have to be fed.
The barn needs some fixin'
There's fence fallin' down the sky's, turned cloudy and red
The rooster is crowin', the coondog is bawlin'
Sometimes I wish I were dead.
I'd love to sail on the ocean
I'd love to swim in the sea.
But I'll never go there or taste that salt air
It’s a farmer's life for me.
Scratchin’ a livin’ from the seed and the soil
The dust flows thru my blood
Holdin’ hard ‘gainst the rain and the wind
The rocks, the ragweed, and mud
He’ll climb on the tractor, head for the field
Plow through another day’s dreams
Years rollin’ by one crop at a time
Turning the brown into green
Chorus
(Instrumental)
I hear about far away places.
I watch them on my TV.
But I've got a child six months along
This farm, it owns all of me.
